1st day of Kindergarten!!

Glen had a major milestone today... the first day of Kindergarten! He was so excited to start school. We started the routine last week, complete with a "Responsibility Chart" in his room. Now, his alarm clock wakes him up, and he gets himself out of bed, gets dressed and makes his bed. Then it's to the kitchen for a hot breakfast (which I was making while he was getting dressed), and he takes his own plate to the sink and brushes his teeth. For his efforts, he gets four "stickers" on his chart.

The off to school, where today, the madness begins. Here's my cool kid, with his cool backpack, and his cool lunch bag, ready to go out the door.

Even though we talked about food the night before, Glen said he was "so hungry" at snack time, so he ate his lunch at snack time, and his snack at lunch time. When he got home, he was "starving," having forgotten that I packed him a school-bus snack. I was a little worried about this, as Glen is a kid that typically eats breakfast, second breakfast, thirdsies, a snack, then lunch. But it's only the first day, we'll get it figured out!

Glen's class is structured into different "teams." Glen is on the green team - here at their team table. He is thrilled - because it is the "Kawasaki" team. He was very happy that he got to go outside to play THREE TIMES today. And, he said, when he went to the bathroom, the "man teacher" said he was so quiet, that he got to walk back to his classroom by himself. This was a big deal.

Even though "circle time" was his favorite thing at pre-school, today he said there was "too much sitting," and that "carpet time" was boring. We're working on more positive word choices, but sitting is something he'll have to get used to.

But the best part of the day, and the one he looked forward to the most, was riding the school bus home. Even though I had (major) concerns that the bus wouldn't come, evidently the school district actually has a pretty good system worked out, and my worries were for naught. Here is my (really) big boy, getting off the bus after his first day of school.
