In honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day (who knew that existed!), me family hoisted anchor and set sail t' St. Johns this weekend last fer the Portland Pirate Festival. We had a GREAT time... me buccaneers loved dressin' up in thar pirate duds, they saw thar first concert, got t' play in tha bounce houses, hold a real bird, and engage in random sword fightin' (there was even an adult "pirate" who, for some unknown reason, let me buccaneerss try t' pick up his real sword).
Tyler and I had fun watchin' tha crazies. Seriously, dressin' up like a pirate tis fun fer a kid, but when yar 40? Really? About half o' tha adults were dressed as pirates or wenches (love to know what tha feminists think o' that), and a good portion o' tha kids. The rest o' tha adults (like us) were literally gapin' - I swear some o'em were drinkin' seawater.
Buccaneers at thar first concert. We saw Cap'n Boggs & Salty - thar favorite fer "Pirate Tunes."
Band members took thar profession seriously. Wonder what this guy looks like when he's not on stage.
As afore mentioned, costumes were rampant. Me buccaneers with one o' tha maties lurkin' aroun'.
Tha concert prompted some bone-shakin' dancin' and sword fightin'.
Thar were three pirate-themed bounce houses. Always a hit.
I'm not sure what hula hoops have t' do with pirates, but Maddox had fun anyway.
Tha boys favorite activity was holdin' "Waco," tha crazy pirate-lady's crazy parakeet. He was fun, and wanted to climb up tha boy's arms. Waco can talk... but we only heard him say "Shut up," because thar were lots o' pirates makin' noise aroun' him.
What a fun day! Time for some grog.
