Imagination

Maddox's imagination has been working full force for the past several months. Just as his language development is exploding, so are the "stories." Here are a few of my favorite recurring themes:

"My" Disneyland

Maddox is desperate to go to Disneyland. We promised him when his is tall enough (i.e. 42") that we'll go. In absense of actually going to Disneyland, Maddox has invented his own Disneyland, which he refers to as "My Disneyland." Almost every day we hear:

"MumMum! My Disneyland that way! Far, far away. Ride my airplane to my Disneyland!"

"At my Disneyland, Santa there. And Buzz and Woody... and racecar (a.k.a. Lightening McQueen), and Spongebob... Patrick... aaaannnnndddd.... swimming pool there, and water park!" (Or whatever the current favorite things are. If it is among Maddox's favorite things, it is at "his" Disneyland).

My Babies

For the longest time, Maddox kept telling us he had babies, in their eggs, in his tummy. There were 7 eggs, 5 girls and 2 boys (go little math man!). Any time Maddox didn't like to eat something, he would say that he couldn't eat it because "my babies not like that."

And any time he was naughty (yes, Grandma, sometimes he is naughty) he would say "My babies did that."

Well, a couple weeks ago, Maddox told me that he didn't have babies in his tummy any more, that they were out of their eggs. I asked him where his babies were.... "At My Disneyland!!" Go figure.

Giant, GIANT Spider

Also among Maddox's favorite stories is about a giant, GIANT spider. Ususally the story goes something like this... there is a giant, GIANT spider. And a wormy. And a dragon. And sometimes a ghost (whooo-oooooo-ooooo). And they are outside. And Maddox had his cape on (the one Grammy made him). And he went out to fight them, but the dragon was his friend and helped him fight the giant GIANT spider and the wormy and the ghost. And now they are all dead, and MumMum is safe. "That nice? That make you happy MumMum?" Yes, it makes me happy.

Random Stories

Periodically I'll get a call from my mom to validate a story Maddox is telling. For instance: one day he had a scratch on his face. He told Grammy that a crab pinched him there, and that's why he had a scratch. Well, we had just had crab to eat, so it's not too far fetched. And, he can be pretty convincing.

Or he'll make up an elaborate story about what he did last weekend, like we went to the beach and he found some shells, and a crab pinched him. (lots of his stories have crabs pinching him)

Or he'll tell a story about how the cat got stuck in a tree and the dogs barked at it, and Maddox climbed up to help it down (wearing his cape, of course). And now the kitty is safe.

I am absolutely enjoying his random stories - it is so much fun to see his imagination develop, and get a glimpse into that wonderful little mind!
